Australian Open Winners

Australian international squash championships began in Melbourne in 1928, with a men’s 'open' event featuring a 16-man draw. This changed to an amateur event when a separate Australian Men's Professional Championship started in 1931. The Australian Women's Amateur Championship commenced in 1932. Both amateur events ran until the sport went 'open' in 1980. Generally, these events were an arena for national players, although England’s Janet Morgan won the women’s, and Pakistan's Qamar Zaman and Ireland's Jonah Barrington were amongst the few overseas men’s champions.


The Men’s Professional Championship was played until 1958, with Pakistan's Hashim Khan winning that last event. Here are the past winners:
