OUR

STORY

While squash looks forward, new generations enjoy our great sport, and new champions are crowned on the latest club and showcourts, we have a long heritage too. One that stretches back to the 1850’s.

The World Squash Library has been initiated as an independent ‘not-for-profit’ organisation to ensure that the books, magazines, championship programmes and other information can be brought together in one place to be freely available for current players, media, Federations, students – anybody who wants information on the long or near past. Equally importantly for future generations too.

This can be via Email (using the Email address, below), through the items that will be digitalised, or even in person.

Spotlights and features will be added to the site regularly.

WSL can never be complete, but over the coming years we will be getting as close as possible!

Hashim arrives - Amateurs v Pros Match 1951

Seventy Five years ago the annual Amateurs v Professionals match played in London in 1951 was notable for it including the newly arrived Hashim Khan. The report in British Lawn Tennis and Squash magazine gave no inkling of the success that Khan was going to have during the decade. The match was played at the New Grampians Club.

Jahangir & Jansher dominate in 1987-8

Not surprisingly, a look at men’s 1987-8 event winners sees Jahangir and Jansher Khan dominating the major events, leaving little room for the chasing Australia posse and other contenders. There was a far great spread of winners beyond the majors.
