STORY

While squash looks forward, new generations enjoy our great sport, and new champions are crowned on the latest club and showcourts, we have a long heritage too. One that stretches back to the 1850’s.

The World Squash Library has been initiated as an independent ‘not-for-profit’ organisation to ensure that the books, magazines, championship programmes and other information can be brought together in one place to be freely available for current players, media, Federations, students – anybody who wants information on the long or near past. Equally importantly for future generations too.

This can be via Email (using the Email address, below), through the items that will be digitalised, or even in person.

Spotlights and features will be added to the site regularly.

WSL can never be complete, but over the coming years we will be getting as close as possible!

Pakistan Squash, from 1940

Information about the first fifty years of squash in Pakistan abounds in this article. I apologise to the author as I am afraid that I have lost the details of the writer and where it appeared, but well worth posting as it gives context to the PAF support and features many legends from the country.

Cathay Pacific sponsorship start - 50 years ago

Their sponsorship of the Hong Kong Open which began in 1985 was not the first involvement of Cathay Pacific. 50 years ago this week in 1975 the Ovaltine Cathay Pacific Invitation event took place. Here is the programme, featuring Australian stars Geoff Hunt, Billy Reedman and Ken Hiscoe – with their autographs against their profiles.
